Masca BIke Tour – Cycling between the sea and the green
This bike tour offered by the Cycling in Tenerife staff will lead us to discover some of the most attractive corners of the north-west area of Tenerife, between nature, art and characteristic flavors. An immersion in the landscape of the island, a tour that, on request, can be customized according to your physical ability, with Easy, Medium or Expert options, with departures from different altitudes.
We will start from our base on the Adeje coast – or from your hotel – in the direction of Playa Fenabè -La Caleta, from where we will continue for about 3 km of climbing (with about a 6% gradient) until we leave the tourist center and reach the state road. Skirting a golf course, we will continue in fantastic climbs and descend for about 12 km towards Armenime – Playa San Juan, and then turn right for our Bananas climb. It is a route of about 7 km, away from the tourist itineraries and immersed in the lush green of papaya and banana plantations, which will take us to Guia de Isora, where we can admire the sixteenth-century monumental church of “Our Lady of Light”.
We will continue our ride for about 5 km downhill towards Cueva del Polvo, until we can see Los Gigantes, the famous cliff of vertical walls 700 meters high overlooking the sea. From here we will start our climbing divided into different stages. The first, of about 5 km, will take us to the municipality of Tamaimo; from here, a second stage of 6 km will lead us to Santiago del Teide, a village a thousand meters above sea level, the scene of the imposing lava eruption of the Chinyero volcano in 1909 and a tourist destination for lovers of good food, nature and ceramics.
We will start from here the first 2 km of the climb up to the Mirador del Teno, and from here a fairly technical descent will take us to Masca, a small mountain village 650 meters above sea level, at the foot of Mount Teno. The beauty of Masca’s natural landscape and the scenery along the way is breathtaking, and certainly among the most stunning in Tenerife.
From this point begins the most demanding climb in all of Tenerife: the legendary climb of Contador, 4.2 km with slopes that in some places reach a 22% gradient, with an average of 14.5%, which will take us back to the top of the Mirador del Teno. The last stretch will be about 3 km towards Arguayo, arriving in the characteristic town of Chios at the end of 5 km, where we will make our refueling stop at a local cyclists’ bar. Here we can taste the Canarian fruit batido, prepared with everything that seasonal nature offers us. The return to the base will be a fun downhill of about 18 km.
