Masca is a small mountain village located about 650 meters above sea level, in the northwest of Tenerife at the foot of the Teno Mountains. The natural beauty of Masca and the scenery along the way are truly breathtaking — one of the most picturesque areas of the island.

This bike tour in Tenerife offered by the Cycling in Tenerife team will lead us to discover some of the most fascinating corners of the northwestern area of the island, surrounded by nature, art, and authentic local flavors. It’s an immersion in the landscape of Tenerife — a tour that, upon request, can be customized according to your fitness level, with Easy, Medium, or Expert options and departures from different altitudes.

We will start from our base on the Adeje Coast — or from your hotel — heading towards Playa Fañabé – La Caleta, from where we will continue with a 3 km climb (average gradient 6%) until we leave the tourist area and reach the main road. Skirting a golf course, we will ride through scenic climbs and a 12 km descent towards Armeñime – Playa San Juan, before turning right onto our so-called Bananas Climb.

This 7 km route, far from tourist itineraries and immersed in the lush greenery of papaya and banana plantations, will take us to Guía de Isora, where we can admire the 16th-century monumental church of Our Lady of Light.
We’ll then continue for about 5 km downhill towards Cueva del Polvo, until the majestic cliffs of Los Gigantes appear — vertical walls up to 700 meters high overlooking the ocean.

From here, we’ll begin our ascent, divided into several stages. The first 5 km will take us to Tamaimo; the second stage, another 6 km, to Santiago del Teide, a village 1,000 meters above sea level and the site of the dramatic 1909 eruption of the Chinyero Volcano. Today it’s a favorite stop for visitors who love good food, nature, and ceramics.

From here, we’ll tackle the first 2 km of climbing up to the Mirador del Teno. A fairly technical descent then leads us to Masca, the small mountain village nestled at the foot of Mount Teno. The beauty of Masca’s natural landscape and the surrounding scenery is simply breathtaking — among the most stunning in all of Tenerife.

From this point begins the island’s most demanding ascent: the legendary Contador Climb — 4.2 km with sections reaching gradients of up to 22%, and an average of 14.5%, leading us back to the top of Mirador del Teno.

The final stretch covers about 3 km towards Arguayo, ending in the charming town of Chío, where we’ll stop for a well-deserved break at a local cyclists’ bar. Here, you can enjoy a Canarian fruit batido, freshly prepared with whatever seasonal fruits nature offers.

The return to base will be a fun and safe 18 km downhill ride — the perfect way to end this unforgettable road cycling experience in Tenerife.
